At the national level, Central Statistical Office (CSO) is divided into four divisions namely; Economic and Financial Statistics Division, Social Statistics Division, Agriculture and Environment Statistics Division, and Information Research and Dissemination Division and each Division are managed by Assistant Director. Therefore, CSO has one Director and four Assistant Directors. There are 10 provincial Offices and each Province is managed by a Regional Statistician.
About Central Statistical Office, Southern Province
Central Statistical Office, Southern Provincial Office is a department under the Ministry of National Development Planning. The Office is charged with the responsibility of coordinating all statistical activities in the province and is a major producer of official statistical information to various users. Central Statistical Office operates under the Census and Statistics Act Chapter 127 of the laws of Zambia. Under this law, institutions and the public are obliged to provide CSO with data and also in carrying out this mandate, Confidentiality of information, rights of respondents and statistical ethics are observed.

Southern Province is the third largest Province in Zambia, covering an area of 85,283 square kilometers. The Province consist of fifteen (15) Districts, namely; Chikankata, Choma, Chirundu, Gwembe, Ithezi Tehzi, Kalomo, Kazungula, Mazabuka, Monze, Namwala, Livingstone, Pemba, Siavonga, Sinazongwe and Zimba. Among these Districts Pemba, Chikankata and Zimba are new districts.
