The e-Government Division (SMART Zambia Institute) is expected to connect 100 schools to the Government’s Wide Area Network (GWAN) this year, while 8 rural schools will get hooked up to high-speed satellite Internet connectivity, with Liquid Telecom providing free internet to 8 schools.
Southern Province Principal ICT Officer Ms JOYCE MUSHIKO has disclosed this development in Choma, highlighting that 100 schools to GWAN adding that 3 local authorities in Chikankata, Livingstone, and Chirundu will also be connected.
She further explained that the benefits of the network are already being felt as institutions on the GWAN platform are experiencing easier information sharing, faster transactions, and better communication with the public.
Meanwhile, Choma Postmistress Ms EXILDAH NCHIMUNYA has commended SMART Zambia for the GWAN as it has enhanced service delivery and internet connectivity at the post Office.
Principal ICT Officer for Choma Municipal Council KAMEKO MANDA stressed that GWAN has enhanced the sharing of information.
The GWAN project is part of the government’s efforts to enhance digital connectivity and provide easy government access to shared services.
